THE ORIGINS OF "LOOK OUT BELOW"

ALL OF THE GREAT STYLES OF AMERICAN MUSIC HAVE HAD SOME
POINT OF REFERANCE THAT WAS THIER INSPIRATION-SOMETIMES
SEVERAL.IT'S DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN 1977-
1978 TO BE PLAYING IN A THREE PIECE GARAGE BAND IN BOISE IDAHO.
BUT THE MOVEMENT THAT ALLOWED "THE LOOKS" AND MYSELF TO
AT LEAST SOME TRACTION WAS THE PUNK SCENE THAT EVOLVED
AT CBGB'S IN N.Y.C..STYLISTICALLY THE MUSIC WE PLAYED WAS
VERY SIMULAR TO THE BANDS OF THAT SCENCE.I GUESS WE WERE
SOMEWHERE BETWEEN "TELEVISION" AND "THE RAMONES".LATER
ON "THE CLASH" BECAME AN INSPIRATION."LOOK OUT BELOW" WAS
A SONG I WROTE IN THAT PERIOD-CLEARLY REFLECTS THE INFLUENCE
OF ALL THREE BANDS AND YOU COULD ADD "THE TALKING HEADS"
AND "DEVO".I KNOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE ALOT OF BANDS TO
INFLUENCE ONE SONG, "LOOK OUT BELOW",BUT I SWEAR THEY
ARE ALL THERE IF YOU LISTEN.THAT WAS SORT OF THE PREMISE
FOR WRITING THE SONG.WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU COMBINED
THE SOUND OF ALL THESE BANDS IN ONE SONG AND WROTE ABOUT
SOMETHING REALLY BIG-WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE NUCLEAR WAR.
W'ELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS "LOOK OUT BELOW".IT ALL CAME TO
ME IN ONE PIECE-VERY QUICKLY.AFTER "THE RAMONES" CAME TO
TOWN WE SPEEDED IT UP A LITTLE;BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT
REMAINS AS WRITTEN.
